Japanese Anime Works That Have Influenced the World

Based on sources and past conversation history, Japanese anime productions that have had a significant impact on the world include the following:

Astro Boy (1963-1966)

As Japan's first domestically produced animated television series, "Astro Boy" was exported around the world and laid the foundation for Japanese animation. Atom captured the hearts of children with its innovative setting of a boy robot with human emotions. Its popularity was so great that it recorded the highest viewer rating of 40.7%. Together with "Jungle Emperor" (1965), the first domestically produced color animation, Atom supported the dawn of Japanese TV animation as one of the three pillars of Mushi Productions.

Space Battleship Yamato (1974-1983)

The elaborate mechanical settings and epic storyline created a sensation and led the "first anime boom." The story of Susumu Ancient and his crew aboard the Space Battleship Yamato to save the Earth from extinction captured the hearts of many young people. It also greatly influenced later robot animation works such as "Mobile Suit Gundam" and "Neon Genesis Evangelion."

Mobile Suit Gundam (1979-1980)

As a work that introduced reality into robot animation, it became the forerunner of later "real robot animation." Unlike previous good-versus-evil robot anime, Gundam depicted the reality of war and the struggles of the characters, and was popular among many young people. The Gundam series has continued to produce new works and has gained a large number of fans around the world.

Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995-1996)

The complex storyline and psychological depictions that defied conventional anime conventions became the talk of the town and created a social phenomenon. It was highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad for its depiction of the struggles and growth of 14-year-old boys and girls. The innovative direction and fascinating characterization also created many fans.

Spirited Away (2001)

Not only was "Spirited Away" the highest-grossing film of all time in Japan, but it also won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film, earning worldwide acclaim. Hayao Miyazaki's depiction of Japanese landscapes and culture, as well as the story of a young girl growing up, were thought to be fresh to foreign audiences.
