Daros (1983)

An ambitious work from the dawn of OVA, with a complex setting and human drama

Produced as an OVA between 1983 and 1984, “Daros” is a science fiction anime about Lunarians fighting against the oppressive government of the Earth Federation, set on the surface of the moon. It is known as an ambitious work from the dawn of OVA, but due to the confusion of the production system and other factors, it is a work with a divided reputation.

Co-directed by Nagayuki Toriumi and Mamoru Oshii

“Daros” is a joint production of two different directors, Nagayuki Toriumi of “Science Ninja Team Gatchaman” and Mamoru Oshii of “Urusei Yatsura.” The difference in direction between Toriumi, who emphasizes human drama, and Oshii, who focuses on depicting situations, gives the work a unique atmosphere.
